Glover Wright - Tribute to a great writer and dear friend.
A great musician, a fantastic writer and dear, dear friend Geoffrey Glover Wright passed away peacefully on Wednesday October 10th 2017. He will be remembered in the music world as Buddy Britten and later as Simon Raverne. The music career of Buddy Britten took off in the early 60’s with Impresario Reg Calvert on Calvert s south coast package tours. Buddy s own band by 1962 was named ‘The Regents’ and released singles throughout the Beat and R&B era, mainly on Oriole and Pye’s Piccadilly label. The Regents had an ever changing line up, including Nick Simper, later of Deep Purple on bass with Keith Moon being the drummer for just two days having passed the audition but taking up a simultaneous offer from The Who. After the Beat era, Buddy moved with the times looking to record a heavier sound. For two singles in 1967 his professional name changed to Simon Raven (later Raverne), after the British author of the same name. Later Buddy reverted to his real name and became a successful author in his own right, namely Geoffrey Glover Wright.
Breaking from music in the 1970’s and with writing in mind, Geoffrey spent time with contract soldiers and seconded SAS units engaged against rebels in Oman, an experience resulting in his debut novel The Torch which was accepted immediately by G.P. Putnam’s Sons of New York and Hutchinson UK, then published worldwide in a number of languages. It was around this time we first met when Geoffrey took up a position as general manager of the Dubai Country Club and I worked closely with him as a member of the management committee.
Writing as Glover Wright, Geoffrey has published nine novels to date and has spent many of the past years in Jersey, British Channel Islands. He has always retained an active interest in entertainment through fund-raising charity events for British servicemen wounded in action. His latest thriller ‘HARD ACT’ published by Fiery Seas Publishing was released in February and reviewed by his great friend and Internationally respected author Jack Higgins. All who knew him will miss him greatly and specifically from the writing world, his agent Linda Langton and Misty Williams from FSP. My thoughts are now with the wonderful Rachael, Geoffrey’s wife, best friend and dearest companion and all of Geoffrey’s close family. May he rest in peace.
